BROADCAST TV
Broadcast TV is where is all started for Plan-C Productions. Back in 2004, a group of friends got together to create the first episode of a new Afrikaans-language TV show called "La't Wiel". In addition to La't Wiel, Plan-C Productions also produce the South African Cross-Country Series TV coverage for Ignition TV, certain rounds of the South African National Rally Championship for Ignition TV, ad hoc programmes on a variety of channels, as well as flagship productions such as the Fortuner 4x4 Challenge (SuperSport) on behalf of Toyota SA Motors. Our regular programmes include: - La't Wiel (kykNET) - SACCS (Ignition TV) - NRC (Ignition TV) - Volkswagen Driver Search (Ignition TV) - Toyota Rust de Winter 4x4 Challenge (Ignition TV) - Atlantis 4x4 Fun Day (Ignition TV) - Fortuner 4x4 Challenge (SuperSport)
Automotive product films has been a mainstay for Plan-C Productions for many years. These bespoke productions are usually used during the media launches of new vehicles, and Plan-C can also supply high-quality B-Roll footage for inclusion in media packs. Product Films are often also deployed on social media, in dealerships and as part of media campaigns. We have produced a large number of such films in the past, and continue to find new and innovative ways to make them both spectacular and cost-effective.
PRODUCT FILMS
CORPORATE FILMS
Plan-C Productions also create bespoke corporate films, dealing with a large variety of subjects. These range from adrenaline-packed events such as the Cell C / AMG Experience (above) to the more mundane industrial machinery from German supplier Beumer (below). In all cases, Plan-C prides itself on the high quality of the footage, coupled to world-class post-production. As ever, Plan-C operates within a client's budget, often delivering more than required.
PHOTOGRAPHY
In addition to its video work, Plan-C Productions also supplies top-quality still images to a variety of clients, mainly within the motoring industry. These images usually form part of the Media Packs that are distributed when new vehicles are launched. We also shoot stills for brochures and billboards, usually supplying agencies such as FCB with campaign collateral.
SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT & CONTENT
Plan-C Productions also supply a full suite of social media solutions, ranging from the management of campaigns, scheduling and boosting all the way to bespoke content creation (example below). We also generate comprehensive reports using third-party software, and while we specialise in Facebook content, we also work on other platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and others.
MEDIA RELEASES & MEDIA PACKS
With backgrounds in motoring journalism, Plan-C Productions' Waldo van der Waal and Hannes Visser are both well-versed in the art of drafting media releases as well as full media packs on new products. The company writes press releases on behalf of a variety of clients, mainly in the motorsport sphere.
EVENT COVERAGE
Combining all of the skills within Plan-C Productions allows us to offer a full suite of services to clients taking part in large events. As a case study: Plan-C Productions manages all aspects of the media on behalf of Toyota Gazoo Racing SA on an ongoing basis. But at the annual Dakar Rally, this is kicked into overdrive. During the Dakar Rally we, in association with our colleagues at Rayder Media and MCH Photo supply the following on a daily basis: - Photography - Press Releases - Social Media updates and content - Video News Releases (for TV news) - Vox pops (for radio news) - Produced radio pieces including interviews - A 10-minute TV show aired on SuperSport each day All of this is in addition to the pre-event material, which includes photography, video content, social media, etc.
OUR CLIENTS
These are the companies that we work with on a regular basis. As such these companies not only make Plan-C Productions a viable enterprise, but more importantly, they allow us to bring our creativity to life.
WHO WE ARE
Waldo van der Waal
DOP | Producer | Director
Waldo van der Waal was born with ink in his blood. As a trained journalist, he started his career as a crime reporter at the Afrikaans-language daily, Beeld. This was followed by a two-year stint at Caxton Newspapers as court and crime reporter, before moving on to the world of motoring magazines in 1996. Waldo started as features editor at the Afrikaans magazine, Wiel, before being appointed deputy editor of both Wiel and Drive magazines in 1998. In 2000 Waldo embarked on a sabbatical to the Caribbean, before moving to the UK in 2001. During his time in the UK, he worked as account director at the well-established sponsorship marketing firm, Prism. He also headed up the PR for Land Rover’s G4 Challenge; wrote technical manuals for Ford of Europe; and assisted with other clients including Shell, Ferrari F1 and the Champions League. Upon his return to South Africa at the end of 2004, he joined the fledgeling production known as La’t Wiel on kykNET, and have since co-written, co-produced and co-presented nearly 400 episodes of the popular show. Now as co-owner of Plan-C Productions, who still produce La’t Wiel, Waldo also works as Director of Photography, writer and producer, and continues to hone his skills as professional photographer. During the last two-and-a-half decades of motoring-related work, Waldo has been honoured with the SPA Pica Award for writing excellence on numerous occasions, won a sought-after ATKV award for his work on a South African documentary series, and been awarded the SA Guild of Motoring Writers’ top award for photography in motorsport for the last three years running. The ink may have turned into images over the years - both moving and still - but Waldo remains a passionate journalist at heart, and is firmly entrenched in the South African motoring media.
Hannes Visser
Producer | Director
Hannes Visser started his career as a Public Relations Consultant and an events and logistics expert in 1996. His passion for all things motoring and especially motorsport allowed him to contribute to various print titles over the years, including a number of national newspapers and magazines in both English and Afrikaans. In 2004, Hannes co-founded La’t Wiel, a South African Television show that is aired on KykNET, a channel on South Africa’s DSTV network that is dedicated to the Afrikaans language. The show has become South Africa’s most popular and longest-running motoring show. During that time, Hannes has co-presented, co-written and co-produced more than 400 episodes of the show, earning himself several South African Guild of Motoring Journalist’s Television Motoring Journalist of the Year awards in the process. In 2007, Hannes co-founded Plan-C Productions, a boutique production house serving the SA Motoring and Motorsport industry. The company still produces the TV show La’t Wiel, as well as covering a host of national and international motorsport events such as the South African National Rally Championship, the South African Cross Country Series, the World Rally Championship, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally.
